Here at Beaver Road we have a strong tradition of fundraising for charity. We feel that it is an important aspect of our school life that children are taught about various causes and develop their natural inclination to care for others. It is also important that they have the opportunity to see that by getting involved, even at a low level, they can make a difference.
This academic year, the School Council held a vote across the school, after 6 local charities had been selected by Beaver Road's SLT. The result of this vote was pretty unanimous, with Francis House becoming our Charity Of The Year 2014-2015. For more information on the work they do, please visit www.francishouse.org.uk
Since the vote, the children's fundraising began in earnest. Across the school money has been raised via cake sales, bake offs and other means. This year the children seem to have taken a lead in organising and promoting their own events. The running total is currently £500.18!
On Friday the 13th March, we welcome staff from Francis house who are leading assemblies for all the children about the work they do at the Hospice, along with launching their Easter Egg sale. In return, members from the school council will present them with a cheque of funds raised at the halfway stage in the school year. We also hope to follow up this assembly with Our School Council visiting Francis house one morning in the Summer term, to see the effects of their fundraising and report back to their peers at School.
Our pupils are caring and giving individuals, with a sense of selflessness. We believe developing and encouraging these attributes, will serve them well into adulthood.
